Spring Planting Time

Hello & welcome to spring planting time in my veggie garden. The seeds were started back in February and now are excited to feel the dirt. Not sure which of us is happier, me or the greens.

Red kale here in the dirt. so happy to be digging in the dirt today. the spring has been wet with periodic short dry spells. Hard to plant when there is standing water in the backyard.  Several days, you could squeeze the water out of the soil. Success today.

Swiss chard & Collards were also transplanted into the veggie garden today.  Looking forward to greens in my salads soon.

Candid pic of me from the 2024 Eclipse yesterday. Grateful to have been in the path of totality in Rochester, NY.  Support local & shop small.  Wearing an epic shirt from Lake Ontario Press & my Buffalo Bills hat for the event.

Big Thank you to Matt Saxton, of Lake Ontario Press.  His site : https://www.lakeontariopress.com

As always, celebrate the way you want for yourself.  Many I know traveled or attended large events. That is not how we wanted to remember the eclipse. We stayed home and enjoy this once in a lifetime event in our own backyard. Happy day after the eclipse.

Endometriosis Awareness Month

Local Event & Endometriosis Awareness month

As March is endometriosis awareness month, I am donation 25% of my sales this month to the World Endometriosis Research Foundation.  It is a cause near to my heart that is not taken seriously by many people.  I am an ally and want to use my creative ability to help.

There was a great pop up shop yesterday. It was in a small woman owned business in my city, Rochester.  I announced my intent to donate to this research foundation there.  If you missed the event, here is a great pic the venue took of me yesterday.  I always support small business in my city.

This graphic here illustrates several facts.

Why Shop Small and Support Local

 Shop Small

Three questions about shop Small and Support Local

  • What does it mean to shop small?
  • Why does it matter?
  • Who does it benefit?

The term shop small means to buy from small business and not the big box stores. In my state, New York,  25% or 1 in 4 business have permanently closed in the first two years of the pandemic.  Where you spend your money matter and helps keep local business in your community.  Those local business support local causes and charities because we are close to them.  As an artist, and entrepreneur,  I know what is means to put everything into my business.

For every $100 you spend at a local business,  $68 stay in the community.

Family Traditions with Love

Family

  • What family traditions do you practice especially in Fall & Winter?
  • Have you started new ones as you have grown your family?
  • What new ways are you sharing quality time with family this year?

We started what became a tradition about 20 years ago.  Valentines Day dinner was planned ahead. We made a turkey from scratch with all the trimmings.  The dinner provided easy meals later and one in the summer on the deck with leftover turkey and stuffing with a glass of wine.  We did not know how much we would like to do this until we tried it.  no long wait and restaurant for not great food anymore for us.

I believe in supporting my local community. As an ally I know we need to listen and show up to support local groups. Stand up and join local events, organizations and / or protests and learn about wheat is going on in your city.

October Beauty

Final harvest from the two large pots on my deck from this summer.  could not go completely without tomatoes.  These will ripen over the next two weeks and be amazing in salads.

Currently enjoying the mustard & kale from the fall plantings in the vegetable garden.  We love fall veggies as much as spring veggies.

I will be trying to make fresh pumpkin for pie this year from our compost pile volunteer.  Happy to share pics of this project next week.  Fingers crossed it works well.

How to manage your cash flow

Good morning entrepreneurs and small business owners. You know your profit margin, I am certain.  Business 101 know how much money you are making because you know what it costs every day or month to run your business.

Problems I help my clients solve:

  • cash flow management either monthly or quarterly
  • finding time to ... sleep, date night, take a day off
  • budget for the growth of their business
  • reconcile bank accounts
  • planning with their CPA(how often)

This is a great question to ponder about and reflect as to why we are in business.  Is it a dream or reality?

think back to why you started your business.  what benefits do you need?  how is it better that working for someone else?

Support Local Business

How many friends do you know with a small business or a side gig? How do you help them grow? Do you want them to succeed?

  • Stand up & recommend them
  • share their social media posts
  • write a recommendation

We all remember 2020.  We were reminded frequently to shop small & buy local. Small business need your support always.  In New York state we lost 25% of our small business during the pandemic.  That is 1 out of every 4 business closed their doors forever.

Garden Design Week 2022

My favorite day is the 1st day digging into the dirt in my garden for the the initial pea seeds of the season. It is about 2 months away.  I am preparing for the 2022 Veggie garden, and will work on design through this week  Enjoying the pile of seed catalogs from my mailbox & the many choices.

Big Change for 2022 is not having Tomatoes in the vegetable garden.   We have an issue and will
solarize to remove it in the garden.

My garden has some outdoor residents.  This is one of them.  She eats my weeds in the lawn in the warm weather.  Her favorites are clover and dandelion leaves.  As an avid gardener, we have dealt with visitors for over 15 years.  We have a 7 foot seasonal fence around the vegetable garden to keep our veggies for the people not the outdoor guests.  as winter has set in here she is frequently uncovering some of my plants and enjoying the dead parts of them for her meals. Most are perennials which regrow from the roots every year so no permanent damage. We have a compost pile which is great for garden fertilizer every spring.

Hello FALL

Though this Month has been exceptional warm at times, FALL has arrived.  The trees are turning colors and there is a crisp in the air in the early morning. Happy to have this image from last fall in Letchworth park to remind me to enjoy the season while it is here. We must enjoy the moments we have with those we love.

The end of season for the veggies is a bittersweet time of year for me.  Hard to say goodbye to the warm crops like tomatoes, cilantro, and peppers.  Grateful for the fall crops like broccoli, kale, collards, lettuce, mustard, parsnips, etc. what I do not grow I buy from the local farmers market in Rochester.  the market is over 100 years old.

Busy  October so far. I am still standing up for what I believe in.  We had a successful Bans Off Our Bodies March & rally 10.2.21 these two brought their own banner for the March.  We must Keep Abortion Legal because it is

 MY BODY, MY CHOICE

Our event was cosponsored by: Planned Parenthood of Western & Central NY, Indivisible Rochester, Rochester NOW,  Metro Justice, Senator Samra G. Brouk's Office and Webster Democratic Committee.

BIG thank you to all who helped make this event a success.

Women's History March 2021

Women's History Month

2021 is very different than I have imagined it to be. How many of you back in 1999-2000 had a picture of what you thought the 21st century would be like?   I know I had a vivid one. Certainly happy to have a women in an elected position in The White House. I wish we had a female President. Happy for the progress of more women elected in 2020 to congress & senate. Proud to be part of history in the USA.

Proud to be a woman business owner and to have accomplished all I  have in the past three years with these firsts
  •  Feature in a holiday shopping guide in my city
  •  Dance festival as a vendor in Dance Flurry Saratoga Springs, NY
  •  Host & founder of online group with video chat weekly (zoom)
  •  full Year without live art events in 20 years
  •  National interview in an article as a feminist
  •  My work in a store in Seneca Falls,  NY
  • Sell my gemstones & work at monthly festival for over a year

My questions for you, after following my progress for the past several years:

How will Women's history month change how you do business?

Whom are your role models?

How do you inspire other?

Proverbial Monday - Hello September

Hello September

Yes it is Tuesday 9/8/20 but it feels like Monday, proverbial Monday to many of us.   The day after Labor Day in the USA has been the beginning of fall for many because of back to school children for years.  Schools and our lives are different this year because of the pandemic.

Remember to Wear The Damn Mask!  Nobody enjoys it but it is a small sacrifice for the larger good of our nation.  Many you stay safe, practice social distancing and flatten the curve.

No Justice No Peace

As many of you know, I reside in Rochester, NY.  We have been in the news recently.

Black Lives Matter!  No Justice No Peace. Participate. Stand up.

Wear A Mask. Stay Safe. Practice social distancing.

Small Business

For every $100 you spend at a local business,  $68 stays in the community. Women use you buying power wisely.

Many of my readers ask why does a small business speak about topics not about their industry?  As a business owner in Rochester, I join others is posting out the injustices I see.  We need to work together and VOTE in November.  Take America by the Ballot Box.  We as women have the power and we need to use it.

No Justice No Peace

BLACK LIVES MATTER

It has been difficult recently.  Hard to see such rampant racism in the USA. It has been encouraged from many places and it must STOP!

No Justice

No Peace

I wish I could say I Understand how the African Americans feel.  I empathize and I am an avid supporter.  It is time we listen. Let our brothers take the  lead & show us what we can do to help them.. I know we can fix this and become one nation again.   It will be a process and it will take time.  be patient and show your love of others now more then ever.

Being the second generation of an immigrant family I empathize with what many are going through right now.
DISCRIMINATION,
POLICE BRUTALITY
& RACISM are  WRONG.
