Women's Equality Day - why it resonates

Women's Equality Day - why it resonates with me.

this is a part of a group I traveled to DC with January 2017 for the Womens March on Washington.   It was incredibly powerful to be there.  As a board member on my local NOW(National Organization for Women) we have been working towards ratification of the ERA for years.

June is here and almost summer

June is here and it is almost summer.  Summer begins unofficially Memorial Day weekend & official on the summer equinox, 6.20.21.

June is pride month in most of the US.  Here in Rochester, NY it is in July.  I believe in Equality, Diversity and Respect for all people.

Being an artist I feel things in a different way than many do.  Many artists are empathic by nature which helps us create.  My empathy helps me identify with much of my environment.

LOVE WINS!

Happy to have the warmer weather back in Rochester this past week. Our veggies are happy and we had the first harvest of full sized Kale last week.  The tatsoi mustard have been fantastic so far this year.  I have enjoyed them in salads and omelets regularly.

Almost all the veggies are planted.  The cucumbers and bush beans are last to be transplanted. feels great to be finishing with the planting.

Happy Iris trying to be closer to the fun on the left..  These are alongside my pool in the backyard.  The railing has weathered naturally because we like the gray color.

Happy to have been given some bearded iris last year which have survived the winter and are looking stunning right now.  I will transplant to a better location for next year. We ran out of space in my beds last summer.  Always want room around plants when they are transplanted to allow for settling in and establishing into the new home.

Now the hard part to choose where they go to live in a flower bed for their new home.  Likely will be group with another color to the beauty of the twi colors in the blooms for next year.

Calico Hammers Women Build

I miss my time with my Women build team helping Habitat for Humanity build homes.  This pic is a few years old and is at the end of the day.  The group is a fun bunch of ladies to work with.   I am in the red shirt & purple hard hat on the right side of this pic.
Flower City Habitat for Humanity (FCHH) is our local Habatat.

Want to know how easy it is to help build with us?  A little goes a long way.

You can donate to help here:

Calico Hammer will be back as a team in 2021.  We are helping in many ways this year as individuals.

Reflections of an Entrepreneur

I am a lady artist in this new century. What a fantastic journey it has been so far.

On this last day of 2019, New Year's Eve I was inspired by the quote below.

This is one of my favorite pieces to have created.  Seeds of Kambaba unites my love of gardening and lapidary with jewelry design.  Maybe it should be part of a series of garden inspired designs?  What to you think?

The Sam Haskins quote is a fantastic example of what it feels like to be an artist.

As this decade comes to a close we are all reflecting on what this past decade has meant to us.  There have been so many laments and reflections that I have seen recently.  How do we turn off the outside noise aka our technology and enjoy the quality time with family?  Especially this time of year as a lady without a living father this time of year is never easy.

I have become an activist in the past decade as a feminist.  One major reason being  we are still not paid equal pay for equal work as females.  I have been a supporter of the ERA since last centruy.  No it has not passed or been fully ratified yet.  It will be that I am certain.
