Spring Garden Joy in May

What brings you joy in the spring time? I enjoy seeing so many gardens come to life after a long winter.  my joy comes from the success of the plants I have growing. In the veggie garden right now are my cooking greens & lettuces.  I feel lucky to be in Rochester, NY and have the Fredrick Law Olmsted designed gardens to walk through here.  As the calendar says mid spring, the lilacs in Highland Park are bursting with their fabulous scent.

This is some of the late fall 2022 Collard I planted last year.  It was not big enough to harvest last fall and it has overwintered here.  We had an odd winter and it was not cold long enough to kill this off.

Why I love gardening. My paternal Grandma had an amazing green thumb. Growing up, I helped her in her gardens.  I have fond memories of her yard in the spring bursting with colors. Some of the flowers and plants in her gardens: roses, zinnias, geraniums, peonies, sweet potato vine,  pansies, petunias, snapdragons, raspberries, blackberries, violets and many others.

This is perennial sage in my backyard garden.  I have many fond memories every spring when the snapdragon bloom.  it still is my favorite flower and she always put them into water whenever I harvested the wild snaps near her summer cottage.  As I grow older, I am grateful for all I have learned from her about gardening and food storage.  She is the reason I started canning tomatoes.  Now in the winter, I can enjoy the fresh tomato flavor forth summer garden.  Thank you Grandma.

October Beauty

Final harvest from the two large pots on my deck from this summer.  could not go completely without tomatoes.  These will ripen over the next two weeks and be amazing in salads.

Currently enjoying the mustard & kale from the fall plantings in the vegetable garden.  We love fall veggies as much as spring veggies.

I will be trying to make fresh pumpkin for pie this year from our compost pile volunteer.  Happy to share pics of this project next week.  Fingers crossed it works well.

Action of Pride

What is one this we entrepreneurs do not do regularly? Practice Self Care & take Vacation or Time Off. As a small business owner one thing we forget its to take care of ourselves.  I am using the time off to rejuvenate myself.  It is good to take time off and take personal me time.  Join me and put down time on you calendar every month. I put everything on my calendar so I am not double booked. This helps to not miss the special party by a friend if it is on your business calendar as down time. Please let me know how scheduling your time helps your business.  your feedback is always welcome.

As April Ends, Beauty I find

As April ends, I find beauty in the garden to share with you.  Romaine lettuce and Kale transplanted into the veggie garden.  Hyacinth in the front yard sharing their blooms and the fantastic fragrance they have.

It is the season for rebirth and renewal because it is spring.  We are dealing with the pandemic still so be safe, and mask up.  my county is one of the hot spots in the state.  Could be because of many things:  the 9 colleges we have,  the removal of the mask mandate in the schools recently, covid fatigue.

Mask up, stay safe, take care of your friends & family. #maskup #staysafe #vax #besmart #test

Vegetable Garden 2022 day

The day has arrived.  Transplant day for my veggies.  Greens are going into the dirt today, Tuesday 4/12/22!  Can you feel the excitement?  It is the best feeling to begin a new season in the garden.  Happy to have found another resilient veggie my tatsoi mustard survived the winter.

Obviously this is not the dirt of my vegetable garden.  This stunning hyacinth demands to be seen.  Success planting the greens yesterday.  I am thrilled to be growing food in my own garden. We should have a harvest in a few weeks.

These beauties went to Alex last week as the winner of the Glass Geometry giveaway.  He is the delivery at his booth at the Rochester Public Market Saturday.

It was fun to launch this new line with a giveaway. the individual pieces are being added to the website this week.  If you see one you have to have before they are online, please reach out.  I have shipped a pair to Hawaii last week.

As March Closes, Celebrate our Wins

As we approach the end of Women's. History month, I am happy to share women who have been role models or inspired me. Two weeks ago I used the term Shero. Now I want to share a woman many have been inspired by.  Our vice President, Kamala Harris.  She broke the glass ceiling when she was elected.  I am happy to have a woman in the White house.

Kamala Harris: “I may be the first woman to hold this office. But I won’t be the last.”

Panda Wear 2022 Spring line debuts this week.  Exciting and celebratory is how I describe my creation of the pieces in this group. There is a give away on social media so please spread the word.  You have a sneak peak here with this one photo. May the line show the beauty I find in Spring every year.

What is in your Earrings

 Earrings

Crystal on Surgical

What are the three main parts of an earring?
  1. Beads
  2. Headpin
  3. Ear post or wire
The Beads (focal component )are likely why you picked the earring they are the largest part and most colorful element of the earring.  The Headpin is the almost invisible part that holds the beads.  The ear post is what connects the earring to your ear.  Most often I use Nickel Free Surgical Steel to connect to the ear.  Why do I use it?  It is the safest metal for ear wires (most non corrosive  type of stainless steel).

 Metals

I believe definitions are necessary and here are a few links for metals :

Silver                   Silver defined
Copper                 Copper defined
Nickel                 Nickel defined
Gold                    Gold defined

Surgical with silver & pearls

Metals are one of the main components in my work.  A brief overview of metals and their uses will help you to understand why I use sterling silver wire in so many of my designs.

Type of metals used in jewelry:  aluminum, copper, gold, nickel, silver, & stainless steel. I have not listed all metals because the list is long.  This is such a broad topic, I could easily spend days writing many pages about this.  I will keep this brief and focused.

Two of the metals many people react to are Copper & Nickel.   Jewelry Safety will be a future topic.
